What you DON’T need to take to College
Today I am sharing the things that I either knew not to bring to college or brought and found I did not use!
- Alarm Clock
I bought one and I always just used my phone so if you are used to your phone alarm, I’d say it’s safe to rely on that.
- Microwave/Refrigerator
You need to check specifically with your residence hall, but at least in Carroll Hall, the refrigerator and microwave are included. Just make sure to check online and see what is included in your room before making any big purchases because some things may be included!
- Food
I will admit that I have macaroni and other microwavable snacks in my room, but you have a meal plan for a reason. The dining halls and food courts will have several options for you to take advantage of and you need to use the meal credits you paid for. If you want food in your room, I do not recommend anything that will go bad quickly because if you are like me, you will not eat it in time.
- Decorative Lights
My roommate and I have lamps that we like to light whenever we are relaxing but decorative lights, like Christmas lights, are not allowed in our room.
- Candles
Similar to the Christmas lights, we are not allowed to have candles. I think this is a pretty common rule, but make sure to check the rules of your residence hall so you know what is and is not allowed.
- Printer
NC State has a printing service available for your use in Talley Student Union and DH Hill Library so you do not need to purchase your own printer. I, personally, have never even needed a printer because everything I turn in has been submitted online so far.
- Nails/Hammer
You are not allowed to make holes in the walls of your room so you will need hooks that stick on rather than nails and a hammer.
